The single “Add Clarity” is a very energetic and dynamic dark electronic tune with howling guitars–imagine Nine Inch Nails meet Aphex Twin and dance with Björk. It bundles Anne’s raw emotions that she lived through during the NYC lockdown and the cultural and political events in the spring of 2020. The song talks about the wish to dig through all the confusion that is going on, online and offline. And it embraces what she learned the hard way during her Kundalini awakening: that sometimes surrender is the only way out of the uncontrollable chaos that is life.
After having met the outstanding visual artist Erin Wajufos during the online event series “The Future Is Now” that Anne co-curated during the lockdown, she sent the song over to Erin asking to collaborate for an audio-visual release. Luckily Erin loved the song (“This sounds like St. Vincent on acid!”) and started to work on the visuals.
The result is an amazing animated music video in the style of dark graphic novels, reflecting the city vibes of NYC and a way to cope with the isolation so many people felt and still feel.
“Add Clarity” is the first single of the audio visual EP “Shock Therapy”.
lyrics
Add clarity
Split seconds, detailed motions
Shock therapy
City lights and notions
Wandering, wondering…
Music sticking to my heels
You know just how it feels
I'm wondering, wandering, wondering
If I refuse to sleep
If I refuse to sleep
If I refuse to sleep
If I refuse to sleep
Who's gonna dream my dreams?
(Dream my dreams)
(Dream my dreams)
Is it you?
(Dream my dreams)
I love you, too
I'm wondering, wandering…
Memories sticking to my heels
You know just how it feels, don't you?
I'm wondering, wandering, wondering
If I refuse to sleep
If I refuse to sleep
If I refuse to sleep
If I refuse to sleep
Who's gonna live my dreams?
(Dream my dreams)
Is it you?
(Dream my dreams)
Or is it you?
Savor it, drink it in
Catch your breath, let it sink in
Cough it up, spit it out
Brace yourself, see it through
I see you've got some demons, too
Cough it up, spit it out
Ain't this what our life's about?
So I dance into the darkness
And close my eyes
And improvise
I love you, too
